Panther Regiment Marching Band Parent/Family Committment
Yes, being a member of the Panther Regiment is a time commitment, but it is absolutely worth it! ThePanther Regiment performs at all Friday home football games and at Saturday competitions during the months of September, October, and November. The Panther Regiment rehearses on Monday (Percussion + alternating Woodwinds and Brass), Tuesday, and Thursday each week during the season. Color guard has an additional rehearsal on Wednesdays.
As a member of the Panther Regiment your student is also a member of the greater South Bands Program. As their parent/guardian, you are automatically a member of the Band Boosters. Parents/guardians with students in Concert Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, and Color Guard are all considered Band Boosters. Boosters work closely with the directors to ensure the continued success of all ensembles in the program. They volunteer their time and talent in many different areas. There is no shortage of needs or opportunities to get involved!
In order for the South Bands Program and the Panther Regiment to thrive and succeed now and in the future, parent support through fundraising and service hours is necessary. This support includes the following commitments:
-
FUNDRAISING HOURS: Each band member’s family is expected to work a combined total of three (3) events at BHSS concessions stands. Band members may work shifts that will count toward this commitment, but ONLY when there is no rehearsal or competition!
-
SERVICE HOURS: Each family is also expected to sign up to help with one committee. This can be any committee heading described in the by-laws, including chaperoning, uniforms, equipment and props, pit crew, organizing or serving meals, etc.
Parents/guardians are responsible for securing transportation for their Panther Regiment member(s) for every rehearsal, performance, and competition. Buses will transport students from BHSS to competitions and back. Absences from events due to lack of transportation will not be excused. If your schedule makes transportation difficult, reach out to other Panther Regiment parents or have your student ask an upperclassmen that lives nearby if carpooling is an option.
